5 Famously Haunted Dolls That You Don’t Want To Play With...

There's no shortage of haunted dolls in this world, but some are decidedly creepier than others.

There’s something about dolls. Once you reach a certain age, dolls lose their inherent appeal and begin to appear much more sinister. Nothing will enhance the creepiness of a room quite like a doll will. Although they may not all be evil or possessed, these five haunted dolls certainly have an interesting history.

Robert was originally given as a gift to Robert Eugene Otto in 1906. The gift was given by a disgruntled servant who reportedly practiced black magic. Otto’s parents would hear him talking to the doll, who they assumed was replying in Otto’s own voice. However, the haunting was not confined to a simple conversation. Neighbors reportedly saw the doll peering through the windows when the family was out. The doll was also seen to blink and change expression. At night, Otto would cry out prompting his parents to see what was wrong. They entered the room to the image of their son, petrified, surrounded by turned furniture. Otto was adamant that Robert had done it.

After enduring 20 years of Robert’s antics, the doll was donated to the Fort East Martello Museum in Key West, Florida in 1994 where he resides, locked in a glass case to this day.

Mandy is a doll of unknown origin that haunted her owners for years. The latest owner of Mandy complained of hearing crying in the night, and it wasn’t until Mandy was donated to Quesnel Museum in British Columbia in 1991 that the crying finally stopped. Although it stopped for the donor, Mandy now haunts the staff of the museum in which she now resides. Staff have reported that their lunches go missing, and that Mandy has broken or otherwise harmed the dolls with whom she is encased. Pictures or videos taken of Mandy are known to come out distorted or erased, making her one of the most haunted dolls in the world.

Annabelle’s story starts in 1970, when she was given as a gift to a girl named Donna by her mother. It displayed classic haunting characteristics like leaving notes and moving around spontaneously. It wasn’t until Donna’s friend, Lou, was introduced to the doll that it became more menacing. Lou awoke one night and was paralyzed. He saw Annabelle at the bottom of the bed, and it scurried up to his throat and started to strangle him. He eventually passed out, and woke the next morning convinced that it was not a dream. A few days later, he heard a noise coming from the upstairs bedroom. When he entered the room he collapsed and felt a pain in his chest. When he opened his shirt he saw seven claw marks, which faded over the subsequent days.

The haunting ended when paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called in. Annabelle now resides in the Warren’s Occult Museum, with holy water preventing her case to be opened.
