The weirdest inventions from around the world revealed

While genius inventions like the wheel and the internet have revolutionised the way the world works today, there are some creations that never quite got off the ground.

Among the success stories there are of course the weird and the wonderful, and the just plain pointless.

From the metal-detecting sandal to the companion-shaped pillow, FEMAIL looks at the strangest inventions from across the globe.

TOMATO-FEEDING ROBOT

Undoubtedly the most bizarre and niche invention, Japanese juice vendor, Kagome, invented Petit-Tomatan - a robot that will feed you tomatoes while you run.

The high-tech robot sits on a harness on the back of your neck with its long metal arms extended on either side of your face.

As you run, Tomatan extracts a tomato from a stash and uses its arms to present them directly to your mouth.

Originally created for the Tokyo Marathon, the robot even features a timer which means that tomato-guzzling runners won't exhaust their supply too quickly.

NOSE STYLUS

For those who are multi-tasking while using their phone or would rather not go through the hassle of removing their gloves in the cold weather, Hackey-based artist and designer, Dominic Wilcox has a solution: use your nose, apparently.

With the stylus attached to the nose with an elastic fasten, users simply peck at their display in the unsightly mask - mounted with clay - to achieve the desired result.

FLIZ (FOOT POWERED BICYCLE)

The unusual brainchild of German designers Tom Hambrock and Juri Spetter, the Fliz operates without pedals, gears or a saddle.

Composed of a lightweight frame, the user is essentially suspended in the air by a harness, dangling between the two wheels.

As well as an unusual appearance, the function is also slightly odd and precarious, as the user must run to get the bicycle moving.

As soon as the rider has enough momentum, they are able to rest their feet on the back wheel and use the handlebars to steer.

BOYFRIEND BODY PILLOW

Calling all singletons, the rather unsightly boyfriend body pillow has all the comfort of a companion, without any of the actual companionship.

Essentially half a torso and a soft arm, the lonely user slots themselves in its grasp, presumably so it feels like they are being spooned.

The half-torso is even dressed in half a shirt, which makes the invention all the more unsightly and creepy.
